Man In The Middle #4: A Look At Extreme Measures 2012
Published
2012 has been a huge year so far for IPW: UK with the company continually presenting pro wrestling at its best to the fans in the UK. I’ve been fortunate enough to be in the ring to witness first hand and witness some truly classic matches this year and things are only getting started. IPW: UK’s biggest stars have been tearing it up in the ring and on June 3rd they will be ready for action once again.
Following in the footsteps of Fit Finlay, Carlito and Chris Masters who all made their IPW: UK debuts this year, The French Phenom Rene Dupree will take on Terry Frazier in a huge international challenge match. Frazier will no doubt be looking to make a strong impression against former WWE star, Dupree. No doubt the Frenchman will have his eye on making an impact in IPW: UK and when you put two highly motivated wrestlers in a ring together, sparks will fly!
Tag team action is a staple of IPW: UK events and as always, IPW: UK matchmakers have put together a potentially show stealing contest as Project Ego, fresh from winning the High Stakes ladder match at Revolution take on one of the UK’s most hard hitting and prolific teams in the Hooligans. The brother duo of Zak and Roy Knight have been tearing up rings across the UK for a number of years and will bring their experience to Extreme Measures in the hope of showing that they belong among the elite in tag team wrestling. Project Ego will be in for one hell of a fight on June 3rd and will need every trick in their arsenal to come out with a victory here.
One match that has only just been announced is possibly the biggest bout on this stacked card of action. IPW:UK champion Sha Samuels will take on IMPACT Wrestling superstar Magnus in the Norfolk stars first UK match since he appeared at Wembley this past January. Magnus is on the role of a lifetime having recently been one half of the IMPACT Wrestling tag team champions. I know from firsthand experience that Samuels will stop at nothing to get a win in this match but will the champion’s ruthlessness be enough to stop the huge Magnus? With the IPW: UK Heavyweight Championship on the line, Magnus will be aiming to add even more gold to his trophy cabinet. If I were to sum this match up in one word, it would simply be, explosive!
Returning to IPW: UK on June 3rd is the Extreme Measures tournament. 8 men will compete in 4 singles matches with the winners heading to a huge four way elimination match with the winner earning a shot at the Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship! Each of the first round matches are mouth watering with Dragon Gates Akira Tozawa taking on Mark Haskins in a match that in mind could easily be the match of the year. Two young, incredibly talented individuals with the world at their feet. This match will be a classic.
In a Dragon Gate UK rematch, Xtreme Dean Allmark will take on the huge Stixx. Their first encounter was a fantastic battle with Allmark picking up the hard fought victory. Allmark is aiming to cement his place as a top contender here in IPW: UK and Stixx has no doubt been dwelling on his loss at Dragon Gate for some time. When these men go at it for the second time, expect another huge battle!
The third match in the Extreme Measures tournament is a gigantic heavyweight clash. Former IPW:UK champions Dave Mastiff, fresh from destroying Rockstar Spud takes a monster that has been making a name for himself in Europe and Japan. That monster is known as Big Van Walter. Whilst I haven’t seen Walter compete, the stories I’ve heard are incredible and I have no question in my mind that this will be a modern day clash of the titans!
The fourth and final Extreme Measures match is a contest that has been building for months. Following his appearance on ITV’s Take Me Out, Marty Scurll has seen his popularity both in and out of the ring rise to a level even Marty himself may never have thought possible. Simply put, Scurll is one of the most recognisable wrestlers in Europe today. Aside from that, he is still one half of the IPW: UK tag team champions alongside Zack Sabre Jr and is also the brand new IPW: UK Cruiserweight Champion. Marty became champion after defeating Sami Callihan in the finals of a tournament which took place after management stripped Rockstar Spud of the title. For 5 months now, the Rockstar has tormented Marty with abusive, crude and aggressive online videos. During this time, Scurll remained professional and ignored the videos from Rockstar Spud. That was until IPW: UK Revolution. On that night, Rockstar Spud conveniently forgot to bring the physical Cruiserweight title belt with him, thus ruining Marty’s big moment. Following Revolution, the war of words escalated as Scurll finally broke his silence. Now these two stars collide in a very personal, incredibly important battle. Whatever the outcome in this match, id bet my life that the war of words is far, far from over.
The final match to take place at Extreme Measures will be the ‘Final Four’ Extreme Measures match. No matter which four competitors are featured in this match, the very nature of the contest means we will see a hard hitting, brutal encounter and I for one can’t wait!
Once again, IPW: UK has upped the ante and putting on another huge card, featuring the best wrestlers from around the world. Nobody does it better than IPW: UK and well prove that once again on June 3rd. When all else fails, sometimes even the best of us have to resort to Extreme Measures…
I’ll see you from the ring…
