Introducing JOEL MASTERS - IPW:UK Heavyweight
Published
IPW:UK has been hit by a brand new heavy force, in the sizable Joel Masters. A product of the IPW:UK training regime, Masters instantly got the attention of the IPW:UK Undisputed British Champion Sha Samuels back in March, after Samuels had to interfere in Joel's debut main show bout in order to save The Rockstar Spud. We had the chance this past weekend to catch up with the 6ft5inch monster about how he got his start in wrestling.
"I started watching wrestling from a young age and became hooked on it around the age of 9, I was mainly watching WWF and WCW in 1995", said Masters, now aged 25. "Ever since then it's been one of my biggest passions and i wanted to get involved in any way i could."
The big man joined a wrestling school aged 21, and had his first pro match in 2009. "I personally enjoyed the match; I was very new to it and didn't know a whole lot of what it was actually like to be out there."
Masters continued to train and joined the IPW:UK training academy in 2011, where he was trained by head coach Tom Chamberlain. Very soon after, Masters made his IPW:UK debut at the Selsey summer camps and had a season-long feud against former IPW:UK Champion Andy Boy Simmonz, finally beating him to capture the Selsey cup - a title he still currently holds.
As a result of impressing in his initial IPW appearances, Masters earned himself a call to go and have a tryout with the WWE. Joel described the tryout as "an absolutely amazing experience - everybody was very friendly and helpful. I gained a great insight of the [wrestling] business and when i left the tryouts i had learned a lot from the coaches and trainers. I felt privileged."
Last time out at Royale Rewards, Masters made quick work of the experienced masked man known as The Mexican Eagle, taking him out in under 5 minutes. Fans can be sure that as the mammoth big man gains experience he will become a firm fixture on wrestling cards up and down the country. With one IPW:UK title under his belt and a summer coming up to defend it, he is the master of his own wrestling universe.
Joel Masters returns to action on September 15th in Swanley, Kent. For more information or to purchase tickets, head to http://www.ipwuk.com/swanley or email daniel@ipwuk.com.
